What is Fry Block and how does it work?

Fry Block is a plant-based powder that turns used cooking oil into a solid block so you can lift it straight out and put it in your trade waste bin. Sprinkle it into hot oil above 75°C at end of service, stir for 30 seconds, leave to cool for 30 to 60 minutes, and the oil is completely solid. No mess, no pouring and no drain risk.

What oils does it work with?

All of them. Vegetable, sunflower, rapeseed, palm, lard, beef dripping, and all blended chip shop frying oils. It also works with heavily used oil regardless of colour or age. Some oils may take longer to solidify. If water or liquid is mixed in with your oil, Fry Block solidifies the oil only and leaves the liquid behind.

How much do I need and how do I measure it?

10 grams per litre of oil. A measuring scoop is included in every paid pouch. For a 10 litre fryer use 100g. For a 15 litre fryer use 150g. For a 20 litre fryer use the full 200g sample pouch. Simple as that.

Is pouring cooking oil down the drain illegal?

Yes. Under Section 111 of the Water Industry Act 1991 it is a criminal offence to discharge fat, oil or grease into the public sewer. Businesses found doing so can face prosecution and fines. Fry Block gives your kitchen a simple, legal alternative that takes two minutes at end of service.

What do I do with the solid block afterwards?

Put it straight in your trade waste bin. The solidified block is not classified as hazardous waste, requires no special disposal, and biodegrades naturally within 30 days in landfill. No licensed collection or paperwork needed.

How does the subscription work and can I cancel?

Choose your plan (Trade Starter (750g) or Trade Pro (1.5kg)) and we deliver to your kitchen door every month automatically. Payment is taken on the same date each month. Cancel anytime with 48 hours notice by emailing hello@fryblock.co.uk. No contracts, no cancellation fees and no minimum term.

Which plan is right for my kitchen?

The Trade Starter at £27/month covers up to 75 litres of oil — ideal for cafes, small kebab shops, and light-use kitchens with one small fryer. The Trade Pro at £42/month covers up to 150 litres — ideal for busy takeaways, fish and chip shops, and pub kitchens with two or more fryers. Not sure?
